CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The 11th International Conference of SPSP will hold at Babcock University, Lagos-Benin expressway, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, July 23-25, 2017. In addition to affording members the usual opportunity of presenting papers and atteding the General Assembly of the Society, this year's conference will enale the participants share best practices in managing their social, economic and political problems in Nigeria with a view to identifying actionable recommendations for development. The theme for this year's conference is "Collaborating for Sustainable Peace and Security". The significance of this theme cannot be overemphasized given the rate at which security agencies, despite the arsenal at their disposal, are finding it increasingly difficult to attain the objective of sustainable peace and security in Nigeria. The security agencies must now collaborate more actively. The civil populace must work more closely with security agencies. How do we make this possible? What are the challenges these are likely to pose? What are the lessons from existing situation? The conference will provide answers to these questions and several others to be raised during the conference. The sub-themes of the conference include but not limited to any of the following:

* Theoretical and Methodological issues in Security
* Problems of COllaboration on Internal Security Issues
* Leadership Options for effective security collaboration
* Institutional Synergies for Security Collaboration
* Prospect of Sustainable Partnership for Security Management
* Media and Effective Security Collaboration
* Border Patrols & Collaboration
* Community Collaboration and Security
* Nigeria's Contemporary Elections and Security

* Proliferation of Small Arms/Light Weapons
* Traditional Approaches and Security
* Gender Dynamics and Security
* Sub-regional/ International Collaboration for Managing Security
* Scientific Approach and Modern Security
* Security Networks for Post-conflict Resolution and Reconsciliation
* Resource Control and Effective Security
* Religion and Contemporary Security
* Information Management and Effective Security

FOCUS OF THE CONFERENCE

This year's conference will include sessions for students and also a practitioners' forum. While the panels for students would help them to build their capacity to make public presentations, the practitioners' session would enable scholars who are likely to dominate the other session to gain some practical lessons from real life field exeriences. Attendance at the conference is open to all interested academic, professionals and students but presentations can only be made by members of the Society.
