Call for Abstracts

The thirteenth International Conference and General Assembly of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) will hold at the Redeemer’s University, Ede from November 6 – 8, 2019. The theme of the conference is “Managing Rural and Urban Violence in Nigeria”. This theme is a direct response to the increasing spate of violent attacks in rural and urban Nigeria. The problems in the rural areas include incessant clashes between herders and farmers, cattle rustling, armed banditry. Kidnapping, ritual killings, cultism, mining related conflicts and violent extremism are all issues of major security concern in Nigeria today.

The goal of our proposed conference is to gain a better understanding of these problems: what they are, where they are located, their impacts, how they are managed and what gaps to be filled in their management and how such gaps could be filled by both state and non-state actors. These are the core questions to be answered at the conference with particular attention given to the following Sub-Themes:

The Sub-themes include but not limited to the following thematic areas;


The conference will consist of Practitioners’ Panel, Commissioned Papers (Plenary Session), Students’ Panel, and Theme/Special Panels (Parallel Session). Potential participants are therefore invited to submit abstract proposals to the organizers. Deadline for Submission of Abstract July 31, 2019

All submissions MUST include - Title of Paper, Name(s) of Author(s),
Institutional Affiliation, Contact Email and Phone Number.
Please submit an abstract of NOT More than 250 words

Notification and Acceptance

In the event of the abstract being accepted,
a full draft of the paper (7,000 maximum words, 12 point; New Times Roman; APA style) should be submitted by October 20, 2019.

Final Notification of Acceptance and Online Registration:

August 10, 2019 for Abstract and

Final Papers Submission:

October 20, 2019
