Theme: Elections, Democratic Consolidation, and Good Governance in Africa

Many African states transited from military rule and a one-party system to “multiparty democracies” in the 1990s through the conduct of elections. Since then, most countries in Africa are yet to experience good governance as autocracy and its attendant consequences are still palpable in many parts of the continent while the fundamental rights of citizens are violated, the rule of law abused, and corruption pervasive.  Furthermore, the prospect of democratic consolidation is experiencing challenges such as contested elections, electoral fraud, electoral violence, bad governance, poverty, underdevelopment and general insecurity which have become prevalent in the continent. This situation throws up a number of academic and policy concerns. To this end, the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) invites scholars, policy analysts, practitioners, security experts, CSOs, political actors, and other relevant stakeholders to join this interesting discourse at her 2022 International Conference that will hold from November 30 to December 1, 2022, at the … Nigeria.
