The President of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Mr Nathaniel Msen Awuapila, fspsp has led a delegation to Nigeria's North Eastern State of Borno where the Society will confer the SPSP Fellowship award on the Executive Governor, H.E. Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni. The team is also expected to engage in ground-breaking activities to fast-track the establishment of a vibrant Branch of the Society in the State.
During the official visit the team will conduct the investiture and induction of the Executive Governor into the SPSP Body of Fellows in recognition of the Governor's outstanding and demonstrated commitment to peacebuilding. They will also carry out a tour of some projects implemented by the Professor Babagana Umara Zulum led-Government.
The President, SPSP, who commended the Executive Governor of Borno State for his excellent choice of Distinguished Professor Usman Tar, _fspsp,_ as his Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, has commended Prof Tar's tireless efforts, saying that he is a worthy ambassador of the Society. The President recalled Prof. Tar's recent remark during a private bilateral exchange when he said, "As peace workers, we have to demonstrate dexterity in peacework..." Prof. Tar who also announced to the President, SPSP, that the Working Group assembled by his office to work with the SPSP leadership to establish SPSP Borno, had commenced work, even as he also said: "Borno is a fertile ground for peace work. We have thousands of Peace workers, who need to be netted into the SPSP family. We also have peace related courses at the three universities in the state...(and) scores of local and global NGOs, bilateral and multilateral development institutions working in Borno State. SPSP is very much needed here to anchor and guide peace work in our State."
The President, SPSP, appreciated Prof. Tar's insight and dexterity and he trusts that the North Eastern zone of Nigeria is on the verge of a rapid transformation in peace scholarship and practice.
The President has been accompanied on the official visit by SPSP Founder and Board Member Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, _fspsp._ Members of the executive leadership who accompanied the President, SPSP, are the Vice President North, Professor Jude Momodu _fspsp,_ and Secretary-General, Dr Olanrewaju Yusuf, _mspsp._ Meanwhile, the Chairman Board of Trustees, Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, _fspsp,_ is expected to participate in the planned activities, virtually.
