SPSP President Participates in 2nd Nigeria Spokespersons’ Summit: Emphasizes Link Between Peacebuilding and Public Relations

The President of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Mr. Nathaniel Msen Awuapila, fspsp, was an active participant at the 2nd Nigeria Spokespersons’ Summit, held from April 15 to 16, 2025, at the Ladi Kwali Conference Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel.

The summit, themed :“ Integrity and Evolving Roles of Spokesperson's in Leadership Communication "organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.  It brought together communication experts, policymakers, peacebuilders, and media professionals from across the country.


Mr. Awuapila,fspsp,served as a panelist during the session titled:

“Inclusive Communication for Managing Diversity and National Cohesion,” presented by Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, fnipr, Director of the Institute for Strategic Development Communication, Nasarawa State University, keffi and Vice President of  the NIPR.

In his contribution, Mr. Awuapila highlighted the crucial intersection between peacebuilding and public relations, emphasizing how effective, inclusive, and transparent communication can promote national unity, reduce conflict, and foster mutual understanding in a diverse society like Nigeria. He reiterated that peace work thrives when supported by strategic communication that builds trust, counters misinformation, and respects cultural sensitivities.


Also featured on the panel were:

Alhaji Jibrin Ndace, mnipr, Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON) who was the Moderator. 


Dr. Nkechi Alli-Balogun, fnipr,  delivered a presentation titled “From Local to Global: Elevating Nigeria’s Voice through Strategic Communication”

The event underscored the evolving role of spokespersons in shaping public discourse, strengthening national cohesion, and advancing development goals not just for their principals in government, private sector organisations but the civil Society and the county at large .SPSP’s presence and voice at the summit reflect its commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to peacebuilding in Nigeria and beyond.
