In its bid to expand its tentacles across the states of Nigeria and beyond, the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) inaugurated the Adamawa State Branch in February, 2021. After the inauguration, an interim EXCO led by Professor C.N. Alimba was put in place to administer the Society for a while and conduct election that will bring in a substantive EXCO.
We are happy to report that the Adamawa State branch of SPSP has successfully concluded its first election. The election, held on June 22nd, 2023, saw a keenly contested race with a high level of participation from members of the organization.
The National Working Committe was duly represented by Professor Jude Momodu, Vice President (North), who ensured that the election strictly complied with the constitution of SPSP.
After a transparent and peaceful election, the following candidates emerged as winners:
- Chairperson: Dr Saheed Owonikoko
- Vice Chairperson 1: Barrister Mrs Fatima Bello Raji
-Vice Chair 2: Mr. Danjuma Mohammed
-Secretary: Barrister Hakeem A. Abba
- Asst Secretary: Mr. Tom Garba
- Financial Secretary: Mr. Ishaku Magaji
-Treasurer: Mr. Umar Muhammad Abubakar
-Publicity Secretary: Mrs. Amy Gaman
-Ex- Officio: Prof. C.N. Alimba.
The newly elected executive members expressed their gratitude to the members of the Society for their support during the election. They also pledge their commitment to working together to promote peace in Adamawa State and beyond.
Dr Saheed Owonikoko, the newly elected Chairperson, stated that the SPSP Adamawa State branch noted that the Society would work to promote peaceful coexistence and contribute to the development of the state.
Prof. Jude, the Vice President (North), expressed his appreciation to the outgoing interim EXCO and urged the newly elected executive to work diligently as a team to ensure the success of the branch of the Society in Adamawa State.
