The Society for Peace Studies and
Practice (SPSP) is pleased to highlight the strong and commendable
participation of the Sierra Leone Chapter at the 19th SPSP International Annual
Conference, held from 25th to 28th November 2025 at the historic University of
Ibadan, Nigeria. The three-day international conference brought together
leading academics, peace scholars, practitioners, and policy actors from across
Africa and beyond. Notably, the SPSP Sierra Leone Chapter was proudly
represented by its leadership and members, including the Chairman of the Board
of Governors, Professor Joe A. D. Alie, alongside key national and chapter
coordinators. A major highlight of the
conference was the presentation of the prestigious SPSP Fellowship Award to
Professor Joe A. D. Alie. This award, the highest honour conferred by SPSP,
recognizes outstanding contributions to peace scholarship and practice within
the global SPSP network. The recognition places Professor Alie among Africa’s
leading voices shaping peace discourse and professional practice. During the conference, Dr. Teddy
Foday-Musa, National Coordinator of SPSP Sierra Leone, presented a research
paper derived from his doctoral work, following the successful acceptance of
his abstract. His presentation contributed meaningfully to the intellectual
depth of the conference discussions. In addition, the Annual Report of
the SPSP Sierra Leone Chapter was formally presented at the Annual General
Meeting (AGM) by Mrs. Aminata M. Fofanah, Assistant National Coordinator. The
report presentation aligns with SPSP’s requirement for national chapters to
account for activities, growth, and impact during the conference and AGM. The Sierra Leone delegation also
had the privilege of interacting with Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, Founder
of SPSP and one of Africa’s most distinguished peace scholars, further
strengthening inter-chapter learning and mentorship. The participation of SPSP Sierra
Leone at the 19th International Conference not only reflects the chapter’s
growing influence but also underscores its commitment to advancing peace
scholarship, leadership, and practice at both national and continental levels. The SPSP family congratulates the
Sierra Leone Chapter for proudly representing the Society and for projecting
Sierra Leone’s peacebuilding contributions on the global stage. Members are
encouraged to continue supporting and celebrating such exemplary engagement in
pursuit of sustainable peace across Africa.
